What is the minimum stay for midweek and weekend bookings?

A minimum stay of two nights is required for midweek and weekend bookings.

What payment options are available?

A 50% deposit is required for confirmation of booking, and the balance is payable one week prior to arrival or a 10% penalty will be charged upon arrival. A 5% discount applies to full-payment made upon booking. No refunds will be given on cancellation, but half of the deposit can be used for future bookings, if space permits, within twelve months.

Are meals and drinks included in the rates?

Rates include three meals, local drinks, confer­ence/meeting facilities, coffee, tea, snacks and one game drive.

Are you able to cater for specific dietary requirements?

Yes, specific dietary requirements must be communicated with the reservations consultant upon confirmation of your booking. This will enable the lodge to meet your needs and ensure that supplies are available in time for your arrival.

Will I have cell phone coverage and internet access during my stay?

We are very privileged to have a cell phone tower on our premises that provides adequate coverage for most major cellular networks. The lodge is equipped with a fibre-optic network connecting all rooms, be it the conference, accommodation or the entertainment areas. The internet is connected via a dedicated tower, providing unparalleled Wi-Fi internet speed throughout the lodge.

What personal items must be in my suitcase when visiting Mackouwkuil?

All rooms are equipped with towels and linen. The following personal items are recommended:
– Comfortable walking shoes;
– Sunglasses and hats;
– Sunscreen;
– Cameras and binoculars;
– Bathing suits and shorts during summer; and
– Jerseys, jackets or anoraks for game drives.

Do I need to take malaria medication before and during my visit?

Mackouwkuil is situated in a malaria-free area, therefore no medication is required.

Will I be safe amongst the wild animals at the establishment?

The lodge area is enclosed from the more dangerous animal species on the reserve, and it is generally safe to walk around in this area. Visitors must however be very cautious of the crocodiles and hippos inhabiting the dams.

What are the electrical requirements in South Africa and how will load shedding affect my stay at Mackouwkuil?

The South African electricity supply is 220/230 volts AC 50 HZ. Most plugs are 15 amp 3-prong or 5 amp 2-prong, with round pins. Adapters can be purchased, but may be in short supply. US-manufactured appliances may also need a transformer. Mackouwkuil is equipped with standby generators, therefore load shedding experienced from the National Grid will not affect your stay at the resort.

What precautions can be taken in respect of medical emergencies?

It is recommended that you include this in your travel insurance policy when travelling. Medical facilities equal the best in the world and in many medical disciplines; South Africa is a global leader. A large network of hospitals are available and offer excellent and professional service.

What is the weather like in South Africa?

Daytime summer temperatures (September – April) are quite high and may reach temperatures of above 36°C/97°F.
Winters (May – August) have chilly nights and crisp early mornings (minimum 3°C/38°F), but the days are mostly fine and warm.
Rainfall occurs predominantly during the summer months from September to April in the form of magnificent late afternoon/evening thundershowers.

What are the requirements for entry into South Africa?

For the majority of foreign nationals who travel to South Africa for vacation, entry is straightforward and hassle-free. All visitors to South Africa must be in possession of a valid passport, but for many countries, visas are not required up to a maximum number of days. For the latest visa requirements, contact your nearest South African embassy or mission. A yellow fever inoculation and certificate from travellers over 1 year of age coming from an infected area, is an official requirement.

What are the condition of the roads leading to Mackouwkuil?

The greater part of the road, from major cities, is paved and in good condition. The last 15km is a gravel road, and although we make every effort to keep the road in good condition, it is not recommended for cars with lowered suspensions. There is a helicopter pad available on the premises and charters from major airports in Gauteng could be arranged, on your behalf, at an additional fee.

Is smoking allowed in my room?

Smoking is prohibited in all accommodation and enclosed communal areas. Please make use of areas that are specifically allocated for this purpose.

Are pets allowed at Mackouwkuil?

Regrettably no pets are allowed at the resort.

What is the check-in time for bookings?

Check-in time is 14h00. Early check-in is subject to room availability and must be arranged prior to arrival.

What is the check-out time for bookings?

Check-out time is 10h00. Late check-out is subject to room availability. A half-day charge will be applied if checking out after 10h00.

Do the rooms have TV?

We make sure that you enjoy the serene 24-hour wildlife setting with its sights and sounds, and you can relax, knowing you will not be distracted by a television in any of the rooms. A big screen Television with DSTV is available in the lounge area.
